Bathymetry

A view of Cordell Bank above the 100 meter contour. The seamount falls thousands of meters to the abyssal plain in the foreground.

Cordell Bank lies just north of the Farallon Islands off San Francisco, and represents some of the finest and most difficult reef diving in California.

Notes

An excellent book "Ecology of an Underwater Island," by Robert Schmieder, documents the natural history of the seamount. Dr. Schmeider led the campaign to designate Cordell Bank a National Marine Sanctuary.
